Back at the start of 2021, we asked your thoughts on the contracting market.

Now that the third (and hopefully final) national lockdown is over; the Brexit transition period has well and truly ended; and most crucially for limited company contractors, the IR35 reforms are bedded in; we’d love to hear from you again.

Our latest IR35 contractor survey is open now. As a thank you for taking the time to enter the survey, you will be entered into a prize draw for a £300 Voucher Express e-Gift Card! You can complete the survey and enter the draw here.

What was raised in our last contractor survey?

Our previous survey was held in January of this year, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and as many recruiters and clients scrambled to get ready for the IR35 reforms. The survey garnered over 2700 responses, with lockdown, IR35 and the contractor market being the focus questions.

When asked in January, 70% of contractors said that they did not utilise any Government or financial support. The pandemic saw mixed results for contractors, with many sadly having little or no work and being forced to slash rates, whilst others saw an increase in work. In particular, contractors in both the IT sector and the Construction industry seemed to have faired better.

In terms of IR35, an overwhelming 55% of contractors said they did not think their industry, agency or end client were ready for the reform. This served as a message for those that were underprepared to get into action, as just 14% of contractors said they would accept an inside IR35 result, demonstrating that recruiters and clients would need to consider a robust IR35 process to get through the reforms.

Why are you doing another survey?

Now that we are almost 6 months post-reform, we want to take this opportunity to hear your thoughts and feelings about the current state of the market and what’s happened for you since the IR35 reforms came in. We will share with you the key findings from the survey so you can compare your experience to other contractors.

We also understand the last 18 months has been a difficult time for many of you but the more you can help us understand the contracting landscape as it currently stands, the better we can take care of you going forward.

How do I enter the contractor survey and £300 prize draw?

You can enter the survey by clicking here. The survey is completely anonymous and should take you 5-10 minutes to complete. Once you have completed the survey, you will be able to enter your details on a separate page to submit your details to enter the prize draw to win a £300 Voucher Express e-Gift Card. The survey closes on Thursday 30th September.
